There was a lot going on today. Finn knelt in the dirt just above a freshly strewn set of tracks. His face was frowning, eyebrows furrowed. Both hands rested over his knees. His eyes bounced back and forth inside his head as he studied the tracks. One, two, three... four. Holy crap. The Grounders were really up to something. Though the imprints were all a mess and messily cobbled together there was definitely something going on. Finn followed the tracks with his eyes until they disappeared just ahead between the trees. He frowned. Hopefully they were just chasing game. Otherwise.. no. He didn't want to fathom the alternative. If the Grounders went to war with Skaikru. There would be disastrous consequences. He thoughtfully hovered his hand over the first imprint closest to his left shoe. He spread his fingers over the shoe print. What are you up to? he asked himself. What could they possibly doing? They normally walked in less packs than this. Disconcerting to say the least. But was it worth running back to Camp? He closed his fist and stood up. He had a job to do. Running back to Camp to warn them about an assumption was not worth the headache. There was no threat here that he could see. No immediate threat anyway. Yes, four tracks was scary. He was used to two. Getting around two people was easy. Five was going to be a problem. In any event this was for another day. He turned and about faced, walking in the other direction. He would need to return to their little outpost camp thing. Inform the others on this mission that they were not alone. Hopefully they didn't know of their little excursion. If they were seen then they would need to work around that. It was the problem of working around heavily skilled men with throwing spears. These kids knew how to fight but they weren't prepared for a mini-brawl. It was bad. A bad omen. He turned the tree to their little camp. There was a little fire burning. Though Finn had thought setting a fire was a bad idea. They still needed to keep warm. The tent was for emergencies only. He made that perfectly clear to the others. He hoped that they wouldn't run into the smog. He was used to it. After being in one too many storms. But he didn't know about Fox or any of the others. He approached the camp fire; rubbed his hands together and held them out over the flame. The tent was set up not too far away. It was for Fox. Being the only girl on this adventure. Finn also made it clear that she needed her privacy. The boys would be fine sleeping on the ground. They were boys. They should be used to it. Some of the boys gave their disapproval but Finn honestly didn't care. Be kind or go back to camp. No use for complainers. Finn.. There was a noise. A twig snapped. Finn turned his head as he warmed his hands. He was relieved that it was only one of the group. Tag: fox

Fox had never been one of the first to volunteer herself for risky missions. She was too prone to be paralyzed by fear and freeze when confronted with danger so she felt that she would only be in the way of others who were trying to protect the camp. Back on the Ark, she had always been fussed over by her parents, especially her mother. She had always tried to shield her daughter from everything, keeping her only child as safe as she possibly could. The woman had made so many sacrifices for her daughter, her husband and her depriving themselves of food so Fox would never go hungry, or not as hungry as she could be without their rations. They had always meant well, but their care had left the young girl even less prepared than her peers for this new world they had been thrown into.
Still, even with all the fears mixed up inside her, she'd raised her hand when Bellamy and Clarke had been looking for volunteers for this mission. The other Delinquents had looked at her with an array of different emotions. Some had been surprised, others confused and still others had regarded her with disbelieving, even mocking expressions. Bellamy and Clarke had exchanged a few looks and had asked her more than once if she was sure she wanted to do this. Although her heart had been pounding with fear, she'd nodded her head, trying to be firm about it. Some of her friends had tried to discourage her, saying that she should try out some tasks inside the camp, but she was fed up with always being mollycoddled by everyone, being treated like she was a little kid. So she ignored the fear that felt like a monster inside her gut and her desire to stay inside the camp, inside one of the tents that made her feel safe while she packed a bag of supplies and got ready to go out with the others.
Having Finn in the group with her made her at least feel more protected somehow. She knew that he was one of those guys who looked out for others and that he wouldn't run away to save his own skin if they would be faced by danger, like others might. He even made sure that she got her own space and had some privacy from all the boys that were travelling with them. They wouldn't be the first ones she would have to fight off, she'd already slapped a few wandering hands away, pushing them oof of her legs or arms since coming here. The moonshine that some might enjoy too much made them feel lose and bold and some boys just couldn't take a hint or a simple 'No'. But she felt that Finn wouldn't let any of the others harass her which made her all the more grateful for him to be there. She was relieved when he came back to their makeshift camp after one of his rounds, the other guys were less friendly to her and quite rough when he wasn't around. As soon as she saw him, she went over to were he was sitting, a shy smile on her lips. „So did you find anything?,“ she asked and absent-mindedly grabbed a small twig which she used to draw circles into the mud. She looked down at what her hands were doing before gazing back up into his face, hoping for a positive answer.

There was an undeniable dismal atmosphere that settled over the woods. He didn't like those tracks out there. It was puzzling. He had been wrestling with the answer since he had left the set of footprints. It wasn't until he saw Fox approaching from her tent that he let a small smile flicker. The corners of his lips pulling up in a slight smile. There was something calming about the girl. Innocent. Soft. Finn admired her. Everyone else was changing 'round here, but she kept her softness that most people frowned on. Not Finn. He loved that aspect about her. It was not few and far between that he was forced to defend her honor. The boys in the group would try and play soldier-boy. In order to impress the girl. Finn did not take privy to that. It was rude, obnoxious. He often had to keep them in line. Remind them they were out here for gathering supplies. He tracked her as she made her way over. His eyes following her. They were filled with a softness for her. From the way her brown hair fell across her soft features. Even he was surprised that she had chose to go out. It wasn't like her. But at the same time they all had to learn about the dangers outside their safe little walls. He shook his head, sticking his hands in his coat pockets. He looked down as the fire crackled. He didn't know to break the news. Doubt. That sort of thing got people killed. He looked back up, furrowing his eyebrows. It was time to get serious. He looked her in the eye. He always made a certain face when he was about to deliver news. News that he didn't know how the other person would take it. There are no resources nearby. From what we haven't picked already. Opposed to what the Grounders haven't gotten yet for their harvest. I don't think they want us to gather any for ourselves. Not with the tensions rising between our people. He looked past her as one of the boys came into view. He had a rifle slung across his chest. Finn looked away without paying him any mind. They are trying to starve us out. Either that or admit surrender. Wouldn't be surprised if they started burning some of the foilage. We may need to push south where it's warmer. That was the hope. Maybe they hadn't gotten that far. I saw some tracks. They aren't one of ours. Too clustered together. Maybe they were carrying somebody. My guess is someone heavy. Another Grounder. One set was deeper than the others. I don't think we are alone out here. He finished the last sentence as he looked at Fox's face. Waiting for any sign of distress. They would need to do round the clock watches. Finn would take first watch. Though he probably wouldn't use a gun. He could just scream. Loudly. We need to be careful going forward. Which means no more fires if we are out here any longer. Until I can learn what we are up against.Tag: fox

Fox distracted herself by holding her hands over the small flames that licked up from the pile of branches in front of her. They were still ice cold from when she'd been to the nearby stream to collect water with one of the other Delinquents this morning. It had been a rather uncomfortable walk with the boy teasing her all the way as he was eating an apple in that smug way of his. Although he kept mocking her, he also didn't stop pressing her for a kiss. When they'd arrived at the stream and had finished filling their bottles, he'd had the especially funny idea of pushing her into the water. He'd kept on chuckling all the way back to their camp as she was dripping wet and shivering and the rest of their group had seemingly approved of the joke as well since they'd burst into laughter when they'd seen the state of her. Fox had the suspicion that the boys might even have planned to play this prank on her once one of them had decided to accompany her. She was happy that the heat of the small fire had dried her clothes and hair by now, only leaving it still a little damp but Finn would hardly notice that since it wasn't really visible. She didn't want him to know about what had happened because it would create unneeded tensions amongst him and the other boys. Plus, if he gave her bully grief about the stunt he'd pulled, he'd probably look for some chance to get his revenge on her.
She rubbed her hands together as they were still warming up over the flames and had a frown edged across her forehead as she listened to his account of what he'd found on his round through the woods. He sounded worried, which worried her as well. Finding new resources had been their party's main concern. They already had their usual spots for collecting things like berries and nuts but it wasn't like they could be found in an unlimited amount. Furthermore, it was hardly possible to feed about a hundred young adults just with berries and nuts and the occasional hunt. Finding more edibles was paramount for their survival, but their enemies made that task almost impossible. Fox stood up straight, her gaze wandering over the surrounding forest when she heard Finn mention the Grounder tracks. Maybe she shouldn't have come along after all, she just wasn't cut out to be a fighter, she thought as she wrung her hands nervously. „So you think they're close by?“, she asked, her voice trembling slightly as she kept scanning the trees. Her eyes seemed to play tricks on her as she thought she saw shadows or figures behind every trunk and bush.

Finn had an unmistakable feeling that something was waiting just around the corner. But waiting for whom? It could not be them. Nobody knew they were out here. Finn eyed the camp fire suspiciously. Maybe they had seen the fire. It couldn't have been the smoke. The fire was too small. He needed time to think. He needed to be alone; weigh their options. He didn't care about his reputation with the rest of them. He didn't have much of a reputation left to save. But he didn't like going back empty handed either. Going back was not an option. He stuck his hands inside his jacket pockets as he turned to face Fox. He scrunched his eyebrows as he searched for the right words. He didn't want to frighten the girl. This being her first supply run. He wanted to help her grow. Become one of the regulars. Unafraid, tested. But this situation told him that there were still many things to be afraid of. These woods... were not something to take lightly. Hey, Finn, one of the boys called out. Finn glanced up. He had his rifle slung across his chest. Lip is back. Says there is am abandoned village a short walk north. Finn nodded. Philip was one of the guys that kept watch most of the time at Arkadia. He had opted to make a supply run. Stretch the legs. Finn couldn't say no. It would be good to have him. Respectively. He knew how to shoot. If it came to that... Finn returned his soft gaze to Fox. He wouldn't let it come to that. Not a chance. Finn was beginning to think they would be more secure at this location. It would be better secured. Instead of being out in the open. Out here they could be attacked from all sides. They were vulnerable. Finn lay a and on Fox's shoulder. I won't let anything happen to you, Fox. He had no idea what lay ahead, or what the village was about. But he knew one thing was an absolute. They would get through this. Together. All of them. One of the boys came up from behind Finn. We should get moving soon, Philip said, lightly, not meaning to interrupt. Finn turned to acknowledge him. Start packing up. Get that fire out. We shouldn't stay here. They were not welcome here. Outside the safety of Arkadia's walls. Ever since they had begun to fight for their very survival. Finn had started to realize this Earth was not theirs to fight for. He didn't want to tell the others. But here he was. Part of this violent game. Lip moved away to start taking down the tent. He was a good kid. Finn gave Fox an assertive look. There were a lot of unknowns on the road ahead for them. If they didn't find any supplies they wouldn't survive the winter. Get your stuff packed. We are going to move as soon as we are able.Tag: fox
