THE HELL WE WANT

Bellamy had never done this before. He wasn't even sure if he was ready to . . . but it needed to be done. His father had said that he wanted to discuss something about marriage with him, and Bellamy figured it was a good time to introduce his boyfriend to him. Bellamy and Jackson had been dating long enough for them to be official. Established. But still out of the public's eyes. With Jackson's highly regarded position as a doctor, and Bellamy's high ranking position in the guard -- along with the fact that he was Marcus Kane's son -- it was best to keep their personal lives, private.

Which was why he wanted to tell his father in person about this. He had told his father that he would be bringing someone over. though had never brought home a guy or girl for his father to meet. Probably because Bellamy had never been in a serious relationship before. This was not him just fooling around either. He was serious about Jackson and knew that he had to take it to the next step of introducing him as such. Obviously Kane and Jackson had met before for business related reasons but this time . . . it was under a whole other context. Taking a deep breath, he looked at Jackson with a short nod, half a smile, and then knocked on the door, wanting to give his father proper warning that they were here.

Jackson was a little nervous to do the whole 'meet the parents' thing with Bellamy. He'd spoken to Councilor Kane on many occasions, though he didn't know him well. And this was different. This wasn't business. This was the first time Bellamy had ever been serious enough about someone to bring them home to his father. And while Jackson didn't have family to speak of, this was the first time Jackson had ever been serious about someone too. Their relationship was still fairly new, but it felt right.

Jackson returned the small smile when Bellamy nodded at him, and reached up to touch Bellamy's shoulder, giving it a gentle squeeze. "It's going to be fine," he said, lowering his hand. It had to be, right? Jackson had never gotten the impression Kane disliked him in any way.

When the door opened and Kane let them inside, Jackson smiled at him. "Councilor," he said automatically in greeting with a small nod. Then he realized it was extremely formal, given the context, but... Jackson didn't think he'd ever called the other man anything but that. And he sure as hell wasn't going to jump to first names without Kane telling him to. He shook his head. "Kane," he corrected. There. Less formal.
