Marcus both agreed with and hated the idea. Ever since Jake Griffin had found the flaw which would eventually kill them all, the plan of 'how to save the human race' had been something they were desperately trying to find. The plan was suggested that they send some people down to discover if the Earth was livable. Marcus agreed with this part. He didn't think it was, he was a believer of science and facts and every project they had run said the year needed more time. He was willing to try it if it meant they MIGHT have been wrong. It was also suggested that they send people down who would not have been of value to the whole. With this, Marcus agreed. He didn't want the best of everything going down, because when they died of radiation then the knowledge would be lost.
Where he disagreed with, was sending a bunch of kids down. The every idea was against logic and reason. IF the Earth was survivable--what then? The were kids with no knowledge, and most of them violent. However, Marcus was one to pick his battles. He would send the kids down, and it would give the Ark a few more months of air. He didn't like it, but he would see it done. Even if they sent others, eventually they would be right back at looking at them again.
It had been a busy day int the medical bay, which was why Abigail Griffin had not come tot he council meeting. That, and because it had been known her daughter was one of the ones who would be sent down. Believing her vote to be compromised, she had not been told about the meeting. Walking down the hall to her rooms, Marcus heard the thud of his boots echo slightly against the metal hallways. Ominous thuds that warned of bad news. He paused outside her door before pressing the pad of keys there. While he could easily just walk in if he wanted, as the head of the guard he had access to every area on the Ark, he instead buzzed to let her know he was here.

Life on the Ark was ever so slowly growing more and more difficult, and it only seemed to be getting worse now that Jake Griffin was gone. He had been the Head Engineer and by far the best engineer on the Ark. Jake had discovered a critical error that, according to his calculations, gave them a year, maybe two before all the oxygen would run out and they all would die. In reality, they had less than six months before the oxygen ran out and the human race as they knew it would be extinct. There was no fixing the problem. That was what he had said. His words rang true as none of the engineers hadn't the slightest idea how to fix the problem. The inevitable end was looming over their heads and only Abby and the members of the council knew about it. It was for the best, she knew that, but a secret as big as this weighing down on her shoulders. It was a huge burden to bear and she was slowly starting to have doubts about keeping people in the dark. Especially as more and more people were slowly starting to suffer the symptoms of oxygen deprivation. Lying to her patients was one of the hardest things she ever had to do. Doctors weren't supposed to lie to their patients, but her responsbilites as a member of the council far outweighed her doctorate responsibilities it seemed. Still, that didn't mean she had like it.
More and more people were developing the sicknesses that came with oxygen deprivation and this left her busier than ever as she tried her best to help them, but there was only so much she could do. They were all slowly dying and there wasn't anything she could do about it but to try and ease their pain as best as she could. Unless they found a way to get more oxygen on the Ark, they would all die up here with no hope of ever returning back home to Earth. It broke her heart to see all these people sick and dying and not being able to help them. All these men, women, and even children slowly succumbing to oxygen deprivation and what would inevitably be death. Undoubtedly, the children would die first. They were smaller and their bodies were a lot weaker than those of an adult.
Someone needed to figure out how to fix the error, but how were they supposed to do that when even the best of engineers couldn't figure out how to fix the problem. To make matters worse, Jake was gone. Floated for wanting to go public about the fact that the ark was dying. Really though, he had been floated because of her. She had been the one to go to Jaha and tell him about the error and Jake's intention to go public with it. If it wasn't for her, Jake would still be alive and they may not still be in this situation. Although, he had made it abundantly clear that he wouldn't be able to fix it. Also, if he had gone public with the error, he would have been floated anyways. Even so, he could have figured it out eventually, he always did. But now he wouldn't get that chance. He was gone now and there was nothing she could do about it. Now their daughter, Clarke was suffering the consequences of both their actions. She had been imprisoned, simply because she knew about the error and the council couldn't risk her going public with it. Initially, Abby had been upset by it, but she had to accept it. It had been safer that way, but now that she thought about it, was it? Was it really safer to keep everyone in the dark? Yes. They would figure this out. They had to.
Until then, the head doctor tried to focus on her work. Healing as many people as she possibly could. She wouldn't let anyone else die, not if she could help it. The medical bay was particularly busy today and Abby found herself scrambling around rather madly to help those in need. While she was busy with this, the council was in a meeting. One that they had not bothered to inform her about. Of course, when she eventually did find out, Abby would be very angry. Particularly when she found out about the subject they had been discussing. Right now though, she was clueless to all of that as she focused on her work, shouting orders at the rest of the medical staff.
A little while later, she heard the familiar buzzing sound that signaled that someone was there and her head turned towards the door. "Come in." She called out, waiting for the door to open and reveal who was behind it. The door slowly opened a moment later and her brown eyes fell on none other than Marcus Kane. "Councilor Kane." Abby spoke up, regarding him levelly. "What brings you down here?"

we do what we must
Marcus turned to look at her as she opened the door and welcomed him in. He gave a nod of his head as he entered in his own form of greeting. As he entered, he took a moment to look around her home, and take in the detail. They were so vastly different from his own, which held minimal personal things, and was mostly use used for functionality rather then a place of comfort. She had raised a family here, and it showed. Marcus had no family besides his mother, and he wasn't overly close to her anymore, finding her an uncomfortable reminder of regretful things. He did miss her at times, but he knew that any conversation he had with her would be turned toward her religion, and as a man of logic, he found it best to avoid his mother and the conversations--especially because she would then talk about his father. THAT he avoided at all cost.
"There was an council vote today," he got directly to the point, finally looking away from her personal things and to her face. He paused them, because this was harder then he expected. Unlike how most people painted him, he did feel things. He just controlled himself to not let it affect what had to be done. "The Ark is dying, and we need longer to fix it. We decided to use the smallest dropship and send 100 people to the ground. This will give us a brief window to decide on what to do next. We aren't hopeful that the ground will hold life, but if it can then we can work toward bringing the rest of us there" He didn't think Earth was ready. All the reports and estimations said it would be too dangerous still, and they could die within a matter of hours or days once landing.
He didn't bring up who they were sending just yet, as he wanted to let her see the logic of the idea before he told her that the people they were sending were the ones that Jaha referred too as expendable. They were the kids in lock up. Many of which wouldn't be pardoned, so this at least gave them a chance. Even if the odds were stacked very high against them. "The vote was unanimous." So even if she was there to vote against it, it wouldn't matter. "We launch in 15 days."
